District Highlights
During the 2005-06 school year, UCVTS will open its third full-time, stand alone career academy: The Academy for Allied Health Sciences in partnership with Union County College, Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. UC Tech, the District’s full-time four year voc-tech high school and the Academy for Information Technology – an IT career academy – will each graduate their initial class in June 2006. The UC Magnet High School celebrated its fifth graduation in June 2005, with 100 percent of the students accepted to college.
Shared-time vocational-technical program offerings continue to prosper with 650 students taking advantage of the 23 occupationally approved technical course offerings, while the UCVTS apprenticeship program grew to the largest in the state of New Jersey with over 2,400 registered apprentices enrolled. Meanwhile, the adult high school continues to flourish with over 100 students realizing their dream of a high school diploma in 2005.
Looking Ahead
The future for Union County Vo-Tech students includes the much-anticipated opening of a new academic facility on campus to house the Academy for Allied Health Sciences and additions and renovations to West and Baxel Halls to handle increased student enrollment. The Adult High School program has added new campuses in Elizabeth and Plainfield.
