District Highlights
The Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School is a fully accredited, four-year institution located on an 80-acre campus in Bridgewater. Serving all of Somerset County, the school accepts students on a full-time and shared-time basis in over 20 programs that combine training in occupational and academic skills. The school’s award-winning Gifted and Talented Performing Arts program, with emphasis in dance, theater arts and musical theater, provides the community with many cultural events. A new 14,000-square-foot addition will expand the performing arts facility to include two classrooms/performing arts areas. An outdoor amphi-theater will also be built and provide seating for 300 people and a high-tech classroom seminar space which will accommodate an additional 150 people. The addition will be completed in 2006.
At the adjoining campus of the fully-accredited, adult Somerset County Technology Institute, more than 1,500 students are enrolled in one- and two-year college-level programs. Day and evening classes, financial aid and job placement assistance ensures that all segments of the population have an opportunity to prepare for today’s workforce. Students may pursue advanced studies through articulation agreements with Raritan Valley Community College, Kean University, Rider University, New York School of Visual Arts, Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Art Institute of Philadelphia, Art Institute of New York and DuCret.
Looking Ahead
The administration plans to establish an Academy for Health and Sciences at the high school. The Culinary Arts Department and the Landscape, Maintenance and Floral Design Department are undergoing facility changes which will be completed in 2005.
