Mission and Overview
The mission of the Ocean County Vocational Technical School (OCVTS) is to prepare students for job placement or further education leading to successful employment. We develop partnerships with affiliated schools, parents, business, industry and community agencies to create and deliver opportunities for students to participate in quality occupational programs with support services. These programs and services are designed to meet the needs of high school students and adult learners, as well as the requirements of employers, colleges, technical schools and the community. The instructional facilities in each of the district’s five centers are modern, well-lighted and air-conditioned. Each shop is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for its field.

District Highlights
The district offers more than 100 practical programs for high school, post-secondary and adult students and continues to grow. Two full-time academies, the Performing Arts Academy and the Marine Academy Technology and Environmental Science (MATES), are among the most popular programs. Facilities for the academies have been expanded in recent years, including a new “Black Box” Theater in a section of historic Hangar One at NAES, Lakehurst. The facility at Lakehurst is the only public school on a US military base. Among other programs is the OCVTS Law & Public Safety Academy. The academy is the nation’s first high school program to award its graduates Special Law Enforcement Class 1 certification.
At the five OCVTS centers and eight support facilities, courses are added or refined to meet the ever-changing demands of our technology-driven workplace. The district’s administrators and teaching staff of over 250 professionals are proud to have stayed on the cutting edge of education.
Looking Ahead
The MATES program will move into a new Marine Science Center in Toms River. The $10 million school is expected to open in the 2006-07 school year. Long-term plans include the practical consolidation of some related programs and upgrades in the technology-based learning system, including a network of almost 700 computers, and improvement and modernization of facilities.
