Sussex County Technical School Engineering Students Win Innovation Award at International Submarine Competition

Engineering technology students of Sussex County Technical School won a First Place Innovation Award at the prestigious International Submarine Races in Betheseda, Md.

The team, the only high school students in the world to participate in the competition, won the award for their design and manufacture of the human-powered submarine which is propelled by both hand and foot motion. Competing and racing against teams from major universities around the world, the students also captured a third place finish overall for their performance in the elite race.

The underwater vehicle was designed to propel through the water by the pilot using both foot pedals and a hand mechanism.
