Judy Savage Named to Direct County Vocational Schools’ Association

Judy Savage was named Executive Director of the New Jersey Council of County Vocational-Technical Schools effective Feb. 1, 2006.

Savage, who previously served as the organization's government relation’s consultant, has worked in public education for 20 years. Prior to working with the Council, she handled communications and government relations for the NJ Commission on Higher Education. She previously served as an education policy advisor in the Office of the Governor and as the legislative liaison and policy specialist at the state Department of Education. Savage began her career as a journalist, working at the Trenton Times and at newspapers in Rhode Island and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

“Judy’s talents and hard work have strengthened this organization and I’m thrilled that she will play an greater stronger role in our efforts as we move forward,” said Diana Lobosco, president of the Council and superintendent of the Passaic County Technical Institute. “Her keen knowledge of the education system in New Jersey is a true asset to the Council.”

Created by state statute to advise the Commissioner of Education and the State Board of Education on vocational education, the Council advocates for and monitors state and federal legislation on behalf of the 21 county vocational-technical school districts, which serve roughly 27,000 high school students and more than 56,000 post-secondary, adult and continuing education students.

Savage, a graduate of Brown University, lives in Doylestown, PA.

“The members of the Council of County Vocational-Technical Schools are among the most innovative educators in the state and I am pleased to work with them in this leadership role,” said Savage.

Savage succeeds Robert J. Swissler, who retired in 2005.

The Council of County Vocational-Technical Schools is the statewide association of board of education members and superintendents of the 21 county-based, vocational technical school districts.
