Law, Public Safety and Security
![]() Ocean County Vocational-Technical School |
Students in law and public safety programs at county vocational-technical schools can amass a variety of certifications: CPR in infant, child and adult; first aid; first responder; FEMA; 911 and emergency dispatch operator -- even defensive driving courses that lower their car insurance rates! Along the way, students are busy learning oxygen administration, rescue operations, and emergency procedures.
Through the course of studies, students trace the history of law from biblical times to modern day criminology, including case law. Academic courses explore the role of law and public safety in the United States.

Strong partnerships with local, state and federal law enforcement, county prosecutor’s offices, and law firms are essential to the success of vocational programs. At Warren County Technical School, off-campus experience is provided with the Police Explorers Club. Explorers work with police departments at various functions such as providing additional security for a Tri- State Boy Scout Jamboree held in Kutztown, Pa.
When a growing Cumberland County population began putting a strain on local fire and emergency services, Cumberland County Technical Education Center created an emergency services program to ensure trained, experienced personnel will be available when someone calls 911. Students train for jobs as firefighters, emergency services personnel and emergency dispatchers, making good use of the county's fire training grounds located across the street from the school's Deerfield campus.
Morris County's Academy for Law and Public Safety is a highly-focused, full-time program for motivated students. Through its strong partnership with the County College of Morris, students are able to earn 24 to 30 college credits while attending this high school program.
