Business Partners of the Year: Gloucester County

2010—Tom Rainis, Sysco Foods

Tom Rainis has been a partner with Gloucester County Institute of Technology for the past 15 years, and has made numerous contributions to the school and its programs. Tom has made Serv-Safe Certification and recertification available to all staff members at no cost to the district. He serves as a judge for the NOCTI exit exam each year, taking a day off from work to do so. Mr. Rainis has provided the district with a variety of guest speakers and demonstrations to keep students up to date on the latest trends in the food service industry, and he continually keeps district staff informed of the latest time-saving and cost-effective techniques and products. He has provided students with opportunities to attend events such as the Sysco Annual Food Show, tours of the Sysco Plant in Philadelphia and holiday food shows, and he continually strives to provide the best quality products for the best price.

2009—Ritz Theatre Company

The Ritz Theatre Company and Producing/Artistic Director Bruce Curless have given the Gloucester County Institute of Technology Drama Department a great deal of support. Mr. Curless has been a member the department's Advisory Committee for four years and served as chairperson for two of those four years. His experise in both theatre and business has been very helpful to the department and the students. The Ritz Theatre Company has loaned costumes and props for productions. Also, an internship is offered to GCit students. Last year, senior drama student Crystal Cowling interned at the Ritz as an assistant stage manager. As a freshman at Rutgers University's Mason Gross Drama Department, she has already been asked to stage manage a production, no doubt utilizing skills she learned from the opportunities afforded her though the Ritz Internship.

2008—Linda Trimbach, Nova Care

Linda Trimbach has supported the Academy of Allied Health and Medical Science program since its inception. Students participate in a field experience each year by visiting Nova Care in Woodbury, where Ms. Trimbach and her staff explain various physical and occupational therapy modalities. The staff demonstrates the use of various equipment and students get a chance to try various treatments. Students learn about the many opportunities in physical and occupational therapy fields, as well as the educational requirements and criteria necessary to be successful in these fields.

2007—Parke Bank

Vito Pantilione and Parke Bank have been tremendous supporters of Gloucester County Institute of Technology and its Academy of Finance and Business Management for over ten years. Mr. Pantilione began as an advisory board member for the banking program and has seen its growth into a full-time Academy of Finance and Business Management. In addition to his support as a committee member, he has provided many student internships. Some of the internships have evolved into full-time employment or part-time employment for college students. Parke Bank has also provided field trips in which Mr. Pantilione has personally met with students to talk about the industry, careers in banking and personal banking. Mr. Pantilione has also assisted in the academy's exit performance test by meeting with students as they present their strategic business plans.

2006—Booth Radiology

Ralph Travis, the Chief Operating Officer of Booth Radiology has shown commitment and dedication as a member of the Gloucester County Institute of Technology's Academy of Allied Health and Medical Science Advisory Committee. Mr. Travis has been a valued member since the committee's inception in 2002. He graciously arranged for all students in the Medical Science Academy to visit Booth Radiology to tour all aspects of the facility. Staff members were available to discuss their various medical fields and explained testing and imaging techniques. Students examined X-rays, MRI and CAT Scan results. Mr. Travis spoke to the students about job opportunities in radiology for possible career pathways. He provided the academy program with a demonstration CD with various test results for students to view in a classroom setting. Mr. Travis interviewed Allied Health students and provided constructive feedback to each student in preparation for their clinical experiences. He has been a valuable business partner and has contributed to the success of the Academy of Allied Health and Medical Sciences.
