Business Partners of the Year: Cumberland County

2010—PSEG

PSEG has supported the Cumberland County Technical Education Center's welding technology progmm for more than 10 years. As part of this support, PSEG has donated tens of thousands of pounds of excess steel for students to practice on and achieve mastery level in their welding proficiencies. The company has also supported the school community by employing graduates from both the welding and electrical technology programs. PSEG representatives often provide safety training to students, and they serve as judges for regional AWS competitions and State SkillsUSA competitions. During the summer, PSEG trains Cumberland TEC's instructor on emerging trends in the industry and new code requirements. This business partnership benefits everyone involved: Students and staff work at their chosen trade while giving back to the community they live in. Students take pride in their work, and develop pride and appreciation in their community.

2009—Cumberland County Workforce investment Board

The Cumberland County One Stop Career Center's commitment to the programs at Cumberland County Technical Education Center is a tribute to the educational community and students. The cooperative relationship between CCTEC and the One Stop Career Center has proven to be a valuable asset to students interested in acquiring skills necessary for 21st Century In-Demand careers.

2007—New Jersey Dental Assistants' Association (NJDAA)

The New Jersey Dental Assistants' Association (NJDAA) partnership with Cumberland County Technical Education Center began in 1992 when CCTEC's dental assisting program was implemented and consisted of 150 student members of the association. Through membership in NJDAA, dental assisting students at CCTEC are partnered with job opportunities and in networking with other dental assisting schools in the state at an annual weekend workshop. In addition, each year NJDAA gives two CCTEC students a monetary award based on academic success and clinical skills displayed while the student worked in a local community dental office.

2006—Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 322 United Association

Cooperation between Cumberland County Technical Education Center and Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 322 United Association has always been an effort of Educators in the Plumbing HVAC business. In 1994, the program became enhanced and modified to incorporate more up-to-date training and new equipment for better educational opportunities. The newly developed curriculum has helped provide a stepping stone to the ongoing efforts by union organizations to provide higher levels of education. Since the partnership's inception, nearly 240 students have graduated. Approximately 100 of those students have entered into the Apprenticeship Training Program of UA 322. The assistance granted by the union's B level residential as well as the commercial A level has given ample opportunities to the serious students looking to build a career in the PHCC business. This ongoing business relationship benefits all parties involved.
