Mission and Overview

The Cape May County Technical School District serves the educational needs of the county with a full-time high school, post-secondary classes and evening and continuing education programs.

The mission of the Cape May County Technical School District is to produce graduates with the necessary skills to compete in the global workplace; the knowledge to pursue higher education; avocational skills for personal growth; and life-long learning experiences through the combination of academic, technological and specialty training.

District Highlights

Over the past few years, Cape May Tech has added an Academy of Travel and Tourism and an Academy of Finance through the school’s affiliation with the National Academy Foundation. In addition to traditional occupational areas of study, the high school also offers a Pre-Engineering Technology program and a Law Enforcement and Public Safety program.

Cape May Tech participates actively in High Schools That Work, another national organization that focuses on raising student achievement, and the School Counts! program that helps ensure students meet entry-level requirements for employment.

Three major instructional initiatives that have been successfully implemented include a writing manual for teachers and students with rubrics for all writing projects; a comprehensive tutoring program to assist students who are failing any subject; and the implementation of a three-week Summer Bridging Program for incoming 9th graders whose test scores indicate they will have difficulty making the transition from 8th grade to high school. The district also has a summer reading program that requires each student to read two books from a board-approved reading list.

For adults, the district provides post-secondary programs in licensed practical nursing, certified dental assisting, a twilight cosmetology class and other programs in the building trades and hospitality field in addition to several apprenticeship programs. The Evening and Continuing Education Division coordinates a full schedule of vocational and avocational classes, an adult high school and GED/ABE/ESL programs on the campus and throughout the county.

Looking Ahead

Enrollment at the Technical High School continues to increase. To meet this demand, the district is planning a $14 million expansion program that will add science classrooms, a masonry program and improvements to existing facilities to provide more varied programs for more students.
