District Highlights
The cornerstone of Bergen County Technical School’s success has been its ability to adapt to the changing needs of local industry. The district has witnessed tremendous growth in the last decade. In 1992, the Academy for the Advancement of Science and Technology (AAST) opened and became the model for the seven existing magnet high school programs that meld college-prep level classes with a career focus. Over ten years later, the Bergen County Academies receive four applications for every spot. Secondary programs also include a full-time Technical High School in Teterboro, which offers concentrations in 20 technical areas, a vocational high school for special needs students, and a shared-time Technical Education Center in Paramus.
Bergen County Technical Schools are a leading provider of post-secondary education. In cooperation with the Adult and Continuing Education Division, the Bergen Workforce Center and the Workforce Investment Board, the district provides education, job skills training, career planning, and job search assistance to all members of the community.
Looking Ahead
In addition to classroom renovations in Hackensack, the construction of a gymnasium and auditorium in Teterboro, BCTS plans to expand its Paramus Campus to serve a growing special needs population.
